Why the Name?

‘Let’s take a poll and get people’s input,’ I said, as Sheree and I weighed up our different options of a name for our site.
‘Sure, we can ask family and friends,’ Sheree said, pulling out her phone and starting to speed-type like a seasoned pro.

Hey guys,
which one of these website domain names do you like the best:

The poll was close with numerous votes placed for all 3 options.
‘I could go with any one of them,’ I said to Sheree, sitting in my swivel office chair, wondering how to make a decision, ‘but I am leaning towards one in particular.’
‘My choice is NationsforJesus.africa,’ Sheree said, ‘but I like all of them too, so I’m going to let you decide.’
Disappearing out of the doorway, she left me to my deliberations.
Sitting back, unsure, I spoke a silent prayer, ‘God, please help me choose a name.’

Makingdisciples.africa was a strong contender because we take seriously the command of Jesus, when he told his disciples to go and make disciples. We want to be obedient to this great call, which is why this is the primary goal of our mission in Malawi, and the mission of our lives.

NationsforJesus.africa was a strong contender because Gods desire is for all nations on earth to hear His good news of salvation, and for people from every tribe and tongue to be welcomed into His family, bringing glory to Jesus across the globe. As such, our strong desire is to be used by God, in some way, to bring about the obedience of faith for his name among the nations (Romans 1:5).

The Decision

But as you can see, reading this blog on our site, I decided on AllforJesus.africa. Somehow, I was feeling that this name was the way to go, I wasn’t exactly sure why, but there was one particular passage that stayed in my mind.
‘Read it,’ I felt the Holy Spirit say to me.
So I did.

Colossians‬ ‭1:15-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Reading this passage again, it came alive to me in a whole new way. It is an incredible section of Scripture, and I was convinced that AllforJesus.africa was the name to choose. The following couple of thoughts are what convinced me.

It has to be All

Firstly, as followers of Jesus, making disciples and reaching the nations are massive parts of what we are called to give our lives to. And yet there’s still more for Jesus. Consider Apostle Paul writing to the Ephesians, saying,

“[Gods] intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.” ‭‭(Ephesians‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

There’s more happening in our world, in the universe, in the invisible, than we are aware of, and that God is using us to accomplish. Jesus is reconciling everything in all of creation to Himself, and He’s even using us, in various ways, to accomplish that. Colossians 1:16 says all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus. Not only some things but all things, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. He deserves everything, He deserves it all, it is all for Jesus.

Secondly, part of all things is each one of us, his children, those who have been born again. I think of William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, impacting countless lives for Jesus, who was once asked how God accomplished all that He did through him. William answered:

“God has had all that there was of me. …if there is anything of power in the Salvation Army, it is because God has had all the adoration of my heart, all the power of my will, and all the influence of my life.”

Sheree and I don’t know exactly how Jesus plans to use us in the coming days, that’s not for us to worry about, but, like William Booth, we aspire to give Jesus all our hearts, all our affections, all our resources, all our time, and all our lives. He asks for nothing less, He deserves nothing less, so (God helping us) we will give our all for Jesus.

I love it! I totally agree! When I first read the three options I automatically went to allforjesus. My reason is simply because Jesus, the son of God died for ALL of us not just some, and He rose from the dead for ALL of us….. giving ALL of us a free gift…. for us to take at our choosing. So as long as we and I am saying we, continue to share Jesus to All,, so that whosoever believes in Him will have eternal life!
I am so excited for you guys! I can’t wait to hear more of what the Lord does as you prepare and the adventures you will have!! All my love dear friends!!
